When It's Darkest: Isaiah 5

“The Song of the Vineyard” welcomes Judah and Jerusalem to join Isaiah in seeing the injustice of their response to God’s grace. It is followed up with a series of “Woes” and judgments. The chapter ends in a very dark place: “Look across the land and see only darkness and distress…”

But this is where Judah needs to be—where we all need to be—if they’re going to take the journey Isaiah means to take them on. We need to lose all losable hopes, so we may know the one true unshakeable hope.
