Themes in Job: to Suffer and to Shine
Job deals with several weighty and important themes.
When we look at the book of Job from the point of view of its inclusion in what were originally the Scriptures of the Jewish people, we see that it’s purpose was not merely to convey wisdom but to issue a prophetic reminder. Job bears witness to what God’s people were called to do: they were called to suffer and to shine. No where is these seen more completely in the Old Testament than in the book of Job, nor more pointedly and clear than in Isaiah 53. These two texts together give us a clear understanding of the identity of Messiah, and so they help us, the people of Jesus Christ our Lord, understand what is also our calling.
