"BUT SEEK FIRST THE KINGDOM OF GOD AND HIS RIGHTEOUSNESS AND ALL THESE THINGS WILL BE ADDED TO YOU." -Jesus Christ (Mat 6:33)
"But seek first the Kingdom of God and His righteousness and all these things will be added to you."
Really?
"But seek first the Kingdom of God and His righteousness and all these things will be added to you."
What does Jesus mean, "but..."? What are we anxiously seeking, pursuing, longing for, filling our lives with, grasping after, aching to obtain, sweating, striving, clamoring for that Jesus says we need an alternative to? We need a "but," for what? Take a peak at Matthew 6:19-32. It's stuff like money, food, clothing, health.
"But seek first the Kingdom of God and His righteousness and all these things will be added to you."
What does it mean to "seek"? To seek something from God the way we seek money, food, health for ourselves? Now to be fixated, driven, oriented, toward seeing this other thing, this glorious thing, growing on the horizon: what would that mean?
"But seek first the Kingdom of God and His righteousness and all these things will be added to you."
What would it mean for the Kingdom of God to be "first" for me? Foremost, above all, priority level-one? That in whatever else we do--acquiring money, food, clothes, health, or working, striving, building, making--we can say, in answer to the question, "What are you doing?" "I am seeking the Kingdom of God"? That the deepest longing of your heart and spirit and soul is to "look upon the goodness of the LORD in the land of the living"? (Psa 27:13)
We're going to abide in this word of Christ for a season here. "Whoever abides in me and I in him, they're the ones that bear much fruit." (John 15:5) "Let the Word of Christ richly dwell in you." (Col 3:16)
Are we people who seek first the Kingdom of Christ?
It's an important question because a few breaths later Jesus says: "Seek, and you will find... the one who seeks finds... For how much more will your Father who is in heaven give good things to those who ask Him!" (Mat 7:7-8, 11)
Really?
Well, do you want to find out together?
